I had the chance to compare a (5.1) Monitor System by Genelec with one by
Dynaudio (BM15A).
The Dynaudio monitors sounded way better than the Genelec.
I would be interrested in experiences with Dynaudio monitors in a mix.
Maybe they sound tooooo good.

Best regards

No, they just sound GOOD! I first tried a pair of the little BM6As
from a rental place in Paris a couple of years ago, and was so
impressed that I (1) wrote a favorable review of them and (2)
purchased them.

Even for classical organ music, they translate perfectly to my larger
speakers in the studio, and apparently to everyone's home systems as
well, since recordings I've made since I got them have all gotten
great reviews (!).

Highly recommended.

I once reviewed 12 pairs of active monitors for a magazine (among 3
reviewers). BM6A was everyone's fovorite!

Monitors we checked were:

ATC SCM20A Pro
Dynaudio BM6A
Event Electronics 20/20 Bas
Genelec 1029A (with and without 1091A)
Genelec 1031A
JBL 6208
KRK E7
PMC TB1SM-PP
Quested VS2205
Sony SMS-2P
Spirit Ablolute 4P
Tannoy AMS8

Sounds great, but am I wrong to say that the BM6A's appear to cost
at least twice as much as any of the others on that list, three
times as much as many?

Which of these cost under, say, $1200/pr MSRP? Which of those would
you say is "the best"? How about under $800?

At the time of evaluation (autumn '97), ATC, Genelec 1031A, KRK, PMC,
Quested and Tannoy were more expensive than Dynaudio in Japan. It is about
$2300/pr MSRP in Japan now (it was much more expensive then).

Event was under, and Sony was circa $1200/pr MSRP (in Japan). Spirit (a
bit more expensive) and Sony (now SMS-2P RS) were pretty good. The only
monitor under $800 was Event, which sounded a bit too bright to my ears.

Hello,
I can tell you that the Dynaudio BM6A are not as expensive as you think. They
cost even less than the Genelec 1031A (at least in Europe).
But I'm still not shure if it's good to mix with such great sounding
monitors, because what I want is to hear the problems in a mix , so I don't
need a system that sweetens (?!? does this word exist?) a mistake.
Yes, monitors must present bad sound as bad, good sound as good, great
sound as great. Dynaudio was so good at this task. On the other hand, we
are creating music, so when music and sound are really good, I believe
monitors must give us great joy to listen to. Dynaudio's sound was so
sweet, dynamic and "musical".

I can't comment on the pro/studio monitors per se (I haven't heard them), but I
CAN tell you that Dynaudio is not a "sweet sound" speaker manufacturer. Their
home speakers, as well as their philosophy, is to produce clean, pure, and
accurate sound. Definitely a prime monitor candidate! -Reggie
