Here's What the readme says: Unitor8 MkII / AMT8 INSTALLATION GUIDE

This installation guide assumes that you just downloaded the USB driver set
for Unitor8 MkII and AMT8 and would now like to use your Emagic MIDI
Interfaces via USB instead of one of the COM Ports.

To run your interface via USB you will have to install two drivers: the USB
driver and the MIDI driver. The installation will guide you through the
whole process.

Please proceed like this:

- Open the Windows Device Manager (Start - Settings - Control Panel -
System).

- and remove or deactivate (if you would like to keep the option of going
back to the COM-Port) the current Unitor device which you find under "Audio,
Video and Game-Controllers".

- Connect your MIDI interface to the USB port of your computer.

- The "Add new Hardware Wizard" will automatically open. Follow the
instructions of the "Add new Hardware Wizard".

- When asked for the driver files, please guide the "Add new Hardware
Wizard" to the location of the driver files, i.e. the folder you placed the
driver files in.

- Continue to follow the instructions and the USB driver will be installed.

- The "Add new Hardware Wizard" will open again. Repeat the described
process to install the MIDI drivers.

That's it.

Has anyone gotten it to run USB under windows2000 yet? It seems to
work OK under win98, but I am having installation issues under
win2k. Just wondering if anyone has tried it yet?

EMAGIC is it supposed to work with USB under win2K? The driver says
its for win2000 also, but you didn't document anything about USB for
win2k. If not I suggest you do!

All the best!

Hey Chad,

I just got really excited and tried it with my win2k system. It
seemed to work at first. However, it installs the USB driver part
just fine. However, it can't install the MIDI driver at least on my
system. It says it can't find a driver for it (yes, I point it to
the folder where the unzipped driver files are). I really wish I
could get this to work!!!

The driver you find on our web site does not support Windows 2000. We
are currently working on such a driver.

No. The driver uses a VxD to provide the multi-client processing such
as merging. VxDs are not supported by Windows 2000. We are however
working on a USB driver for Windows 2000.

Hey Clayton and Group,

This is the same problem I have. Emagic has added a little footnote
in the drivers section that now states USB is only for win98.
Although the reply I got from emagic support basically said it should
work, but also that there is really no reason to use it, as the COM
port driver works "fine". I have to contradict this and say that I
have had several "KEY DOES NOT RESPOND" errors with it hooked to my
key. Before I hooked an AMT8 to my KEY... I NEVER had this error. I
have several friends using the U8/AMT8 hooked to the key, and they
have had this error also. This requires that the computer be shut
down, key removed for 5 minutes then reconnected. Reboot and your
away untill the next time "KEY DOES NOT RESPOND" I would like to see
this looked into, and then maybe USB wont be needed afterall. At
least not in my case...

May the force be with you!

Hi there!

I just got my Unitor 8 mk II and I've had several these "KEY DOES NOT
RESPOND"-
messages, and it's driving me nuts ! I had naive thought that buying
hardware from software manufacturer could produce minimal troubles...:(
And somehow they sent me rev 1 hardware, when rev 3 is current !!??
I guess I have to call somebody on monday.....

all the best,

Antti

Read carefully. Rev 3 applied to the old Unitor8. For Unitor8 MkII,
still rev 1 is current.

Also I haven't been able to get my AMT8 to install under windows 2000

tried this yet? Anyone having any luck with a U8/AMT8 on a windows

I don't know the AMT8 under Win2000, but _Logic_Audio_ does NOT support
Win2000 at the moment! This will change, but at the moment Win98 is required
for Logic Audio.

Nope, with the new drivers I could not at all get my AMT8 to work in
windows 2000. The drivers would not even install on my machine.

Tonight, I going to install windows 98 b/c I for some reason assumed
that LAP worked with windows 2000. (I recently bought LAP.) I
guess the thought that emagic had windows 2000 drivers for the Unitor
series and the fact that Soundiver works with windows 2000 made me
think LAP did also.

I going to keep my windows 2000 intact on a separate hard drive and
wait for everything to work with windows 2000 properly. For now
though, I'm going back to Windows 98. UGGGH!! I'm getting ready for
intermittent crashing and user resouce using again!!!!!!!!

It says so on Emagics web site:

Unitor Family Driver (84 K, ZIP archive)
Support of all devices of the Unitor Family: Unitor8, Unitor8 MkII,
AMT8 and MT4
Connect via COM ports or USB* ports
For Windows 95/98, Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 2000
Upload May/29/2000

* USB only for Windows 98

The footnote * was added a few days after the driver was uploaded.

Dear Mr. Miller,
Instead of the information which was put on our website last week the
AMT8
driver is not running yet under Windows 2000. The information has been
changed quickly. We are very sorry for any trouble which is based on
this
wrong information on our website.

We will develope a Windows 2000 driver as soon as possible.

Best Regards
Jörg Regener
They still haven't changed it on the site. : ) But god bless em
anyways! Keep up the good work Emagic, and get that Win2k support
down!

What do you mean with 37 MIDI channels? How do they divide up to the
AMT8's MIDI outputs? With an AMT8, you should have 8*16 = 128 MIDI
channels.

The USB driver has the same features as the COM port driver, plus it
supports Plug & Play (hot plugging).

is the problem?
Michael,

The BETA NT driver is no longer available on the Emagic Website. And
I for one could not get it to work correctly when it was. I think it
had something to do with the fact that the BETA driver did not allow
for COM port selection. I tried running Unitor 8 control, but it
would not work.

Best!

I see. We are currently beta-testing a new version of the NT driver
which will have all features you know from the Windows 98 driver.
Please stay patient.
