Discussion:
Tracks won't unmute

Hi,

I've been working on a piece using VSL, and I muted the first five
tracks while I worked on strings. I used the mute function on the
track itself, rather than the mute below the track's fader. I had
saved the project with the mutes in place, and when I restored the
project I am now unable to unmute those tracks. Even though the mute
button is unlit, the tracks still stay shaded.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Rob Yale

Try the "mute-tool" withoin the toolbox.

There are 3 kinds of mute in Logic:

1) Region mute
2) Arrange Track mute
3) Environment/Mixer mute

Perhaps the region(s) are muted in addition to the Arrange Track
being muted?

"M" is the default keycommand to mute/unmute regions. You can
also use the M tool.

I know you are an experienced Logic user, and I hate to state the
obvious...but: is it possible you somehow have the actual sequences
themselves muted? That would explain the arrange window track mute status
not having an effect on them.

And one other thing: I'm now samplemerging my VSL library with EXS
Manager. If I've somehow blown up this project by loading too many
samples, I'll be able to avoid the problem in the future.

But I'd still like to at least get the sequences out of my project.
Any ideas?

Thanks,

Rob

Hi,

You know...I'm now convinced that I've somehow applied an object mute,
but it doesn't look like I'm going to be able to find out. I can't
load the project anymore! I've done all the obvious things:

1) fixed permissions.

2) trashed logic prefs

3) rebuilt with setup assistant.

4) ensured that there is an active no-output instrument in my autoload
file.

Still, the project won't load. Furthermore, even earlier iterations -
before I started messing around with mutes now won't load!

Other projects will load, interestingly none of them have any EXS
instances in them. Once loaded, I can instantiate EXS no problem.

Ouch.

There is also a 4th kind: muting of individual MIDI events within a
sequence: also with the "M" key command or with the mute tool in the
MIDI editors...

I'm having problems with the stereo delay plug-in in Logic Pro. The
first use of
the dela on a track always has drop outs and muted section in it. When
the
delay is used a second time and from then onwards it works fine. Is
this a
known bug? I can get round it by putting an audio file on the track and
automating the volume to silence it.
Gordon
I am not sure how 'known' this bug is, but it seems to happen
irregularly for me too. However, I also have it on reverb too.
I found that putting a silent region of audio, where the delays should
be repeating, was a satisfactory workaround.
Regards,
Matt

I am getting the same drop outs and its driving me crazy when trying to master tracks. Do
these solutions you guys mention keep the delay going without a drop ???

Best,
